This is the thread that strengthens your resolve to buy bespoke shoes...only this time out of spite.

No, this is the thread where artisans spite their customers.

I said "significant departures" from promised schedules, not just any sort of change. Anyway, you are missing the point that a specific promise in a particular deal should trump what's customary in an industry.

I did not say that I "accepted significant departures" from the original scheule. I said that I "chose to accept schedule changes". I have not missed the point. I know the point only too well having experience with bespoke shoemakers. As I said earlier, it would appear, not knowing both sides of the story, that there is a failure to communicate and I stick by the story. This is a sad story for me because I had a good experience with Marcell and Itamar, even though there were changes in promised schedules. I communicated with Marcell and understood what was going on. I plan to commission another pair too.

Lyanah, not to be a jerk, but you are quoting posts incorrectly. You need to leave the "QUOTE" after the post you are quoting.

Ed - Sorry. I knew I was doing something wrong but didn't know what. Thanks for setting me straight.

No offense, but it sounds like the CUSTOMER is being YOUR banker.

This at least sets an expectation. Waiting for something you want is not the issue, its a question of expectations.

In the OP's situation a phone call saying something like "the leather you ordered has been delayed 2 months" probably would have solved the issue. Or "we are way behind, I wanted you to know".

The difference between you and the OP is that it appears he was promised a date. Its not his fault, the expectations were set by the maker, not him.

You need to balance the artist and the businessman.
