Guys, I feel a need to point out that unless you keep your jacket off most of the day (which you shouldn't) no one's going to see that you're wearing suspenders. So, why the taboo? Is your boss going to chew you out because you choose another way to hold up your pants which can only be seen when you're in the lavatory? I don't quite understand it. Then again, I've never worked a job that requires a suit, so whatever. Maybe I'm not qualified to say anything.
jml90 - aren't you 15 or 16 years old?
What exactly has age got to do with it, gdl203? He's been wearing suits for a damn good part of his life (a lot, lot longer than I have) so I think he's more than qualified to share his opinion. You didn't seem to have anything to say about his point besides that he's 15-16, so it gives the impression you're discounting it simply because of age. I'm only 19, do my arguments carry more weight because I'm merely a few years older?
The guy is asking for advice from people working in the industry. We're giving him good advice. This thread is not meant to discuss social norms or whether or not he should work in I-banking... that is not the question that was asked
It has quite a bit to do with social norms considering he's asking us what's appropriate
for working at such a place. jml90 was trying to say if they actually chewed him out for wearing braces that it would be quite surprising. He wasn't actually telling
him to find another place.
