She's also the least sexy 'beautiful' woman in history. It was hilarious watching her try to act like a stripper in Closer.

I think that women should be forced to watch "A Wonderful Life" over and over again until they all learn to act like Donna Reed.

Why are there no hott male icons?

Or why don't men idolize other vapid yet handsome men? milton friedman and noam chomsky were no great beauties. in current media i was browsing for dvd's and saw several humphrey bogart movies. i also don't get why bob dylan is popular and lauded as a fashion icon. he is fuzzy and unmannish. why don't men like zac efron, adam lambert or something?

Seriously, wtf?

Basically, anything that speaks to an old Hollywood concept of glamour will have a certain cachet, as it seems out-of-place in today's naturalized cinematic language.

Its a nice mixture of knowing very little about her person and peoples inability to separate an actor from their work that let her flourish as an idea/ideal.
