How much cash in your wallet

Thread Starter
Just curious. How much cash do people carry around with them? When I am in the states, I use a credit card almost exclusively and about $100 in petty cash will suffice most of the time. At home in Saudi, I use cash for everything and I usually carry more like $300.

I just had a buddy pay me some cash that he owed me so today I've got about $1000 in my wallet.

How about you guys?

Usually zero.

On average, between 20-60. I live in the city and everywhere takes plastic. I have a cash-back visa so it's no skin off my back to pay everything with the card, and since most places these days don't bother with sigs below ~$25, I love it even more.

About $200-$500 usually. Occasionally I run into places that do not accept debit or credit cards. Plus if I am ever fighting over the bill they will accept the cash vs the card to avoid transaction fees.

I like to keep alot of ones and fives, for tips. Besides that most purchases are bought with a check card.

This brings back memories of Poland a few years ago ... where one could spend a million Zlotys at a sidewalk cafe.

What kind of fights are you getting into that require you to cough up $500?

When I was younger I used to think carrying lots of cash in a money clip was big timer, so I'd keep $1,000 in $100's, then I realized no one takes $100's and it was just plain dumb to walk around with that much money since i pay for everything on debit card/credit card.
