master cleanse diet - Page 6

i know wikipedia is not the best source, but i reckon mucoid plaque is probably a myth - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mucoid_plaque

i have had colon cancer, a hemi-collectomy and more two day fast prefixed colonoscopy's than i care to remember. i have passed blood, mucus, and mucusy blood. i have never ever heard any evidence, scientific or anecdotal, that this stuff exists, and the fact that new-agey businesses that make money from complimentary treatments are the only group of people that seem to be mentioning it makes me hugely skeptical.

as long as it impacts no one else though, do whatever floats your boat.

Obviously a right hemicolectomy - they left the anus behind.

I only know one guy who did it, and he didn't make it all the way through, but he ended up looking and feeling a whole lot better in the end.

Hey, the investment's a $7.00 book on Amazon (or free from the library), and whatever you spend on it and the ingredients, you save by not maintaining your regular eating habits anyway. So, if someone's getting rich off the "scam", more power to them. If someone offered me a $7.00 "placebo" that couldn't do anything "scientifically verifiable", but was going to have me look and feel better anyway, call me a fool, but I'd take it.

Mike - midstream varies with each individual. what you have to do is over a 3 month period, sample a couple of times a day, until you find what is the right point for you

i don't expect anyone to understand my inconsistent and contradictory behavior. i never claimed i was an example of anything, nor that my go at the master cleanse diet (it's a 'diet' because one is still taking in nutrients, so it's not a complete fast) was setting out to prove anything.

i know of and believe in the pitfalls of fasting, with respect to the goal of losing fat and staying healthy. i know about starvation mode. i would never fast with the goal of losing weight.

for what it's worth, i still haven't gained back all the weight i lost. i'm not guessing why.

however, the thing i will say is that mucoid plaque is real, and if you're someone who has lived a while with a standard american diet, you will have quite a buildup of gunk lining the walls of your intestine. maybe there are other detox diets that help flush that out, i don't know. but this one's been around 25 years or so.

i would speculate that even many vegetarians will have some amount of plaque built up over the years.

my other speculation is that removing the plaque could only be a good thing, that it would help things pass more easily through the walls of the intestines that need to pass through.

my last position is that 10 days of this diet didn't hurt me and probably wouldn't hurt other people unless they've got some other health issues. i won't say it will help anyone feel better or lose weight permanently though.

/andrew - still hates salt water

andrew - this is a perfectly normal way for an american in the 21st century to go about their lives. I do it to - eat stuff I shouldn't, and then try to fix what I can.

and, what ever the science of it, I find the the occasional fast (total, juice, or raw vegies) makes me feel like I have cleaned out my gut from the heavy nasty stuff of day to day.

ok, thanks for your permission.

...and you surely have heard 'anecdotal' evidence that mucoid plaque exists. i just looked at pictures (yuck) and nothing like that came out of me, so i can't vouch for its existence. but there was some kind of junk coming out that wasn't just processed lemon pulp.

i've decided at this point in my life that, personally speaking, there is a time and a place for skepticism. i don't have time anymore to wage long internal debates about whether or not to go along with my wife and her mom on this crazy diet. i took it as an opportunity to learn something about my body.

if, god forbid, i'm some kind of example to anyone, i implore you: before you pay someone money, join a cult, or become a politician, please think twice and don't do it just on my account.

I made the 10 days. First 2-3 were tough(headaches) but no other problems. My best friend was on it also, ( a bet) the support helps. Kept up my running, weights, etc. Lots of forums for info, support , http://curezone.com/forums/f.asp?f=100075, reading daily helped.
