Alden ravello color. Thoughts

It seems that ravello is the color of the moment for shells. However, I see them described as "rare". First, what do you all think of of the color? Because so many seem to like it, why do you suppose Alden doesn't make them more available? You would think they would pressure Horween to produce more of this color, if it is indeed so popular.

It's become one of my favorite colors in shell. Very versatile, more so than whiskey, IMO, which used to be my favorite.

Other people (example Rider) don't seem to have problem with sourcing shells of all sorts of exotic colors from Horween.

The rare colors today are black and #8. Good luck finding a pair with a smooth and shiny surface in either of those two colors.

I have never seen ravello shell in person. Could you please compare to dark brown cordovan RL Darlton? Also to whiskey shell?

Also, would it be over-kill if I buy the below shoes from Tom (when it becomes re-available), as I already own RL Darlton wingtips and pre-ordered Winn Perry longwings in walnut brown calfskin?

I think Winn Perry's shade and color is the closest one to Tom's ravello. But one is shell and the other is calf. So I think they must look quite different regardless. In addition, Tom's shoes are the sleekest among all without any storm welt. Let me know what you think.

I think I want to walk a mile in your shoes.

I have not seen them in person either. I'm eager to hear what the crew has to say about the color variances.

No comments? Come on ravello owners.

Let me add another link of shoes that I own which you may consider similar to Tom's ravello wingtip blucher in terms of style (wingtip, though balmoral) and color (light beige, according to the box of the shoes):

Whiskey shell, ravello shell, walnut calf, cigar shell, whatever the hell they call RL Darltons.

Simply amazing and (almost) a definitive answer to my question. I said almost because the shoes which I will own in April from Winn Perry, i.e. Double Waterloc Longwings, are walnut calf, whereas your AAAC balmoral wingtips are "burnished" walnut. I don't know how much difference would that "burnished" factor make.

According to RL's website they are "dark brown". Mine developed a patina similar to yours and I personally very like it. More than Alden's cigar shell.

I believe Horween calls the RL color "dark cognac." It tends to lighten dramatically with time, and can almost look like Ravello after a while. They start out the dark color on the RL website and progress to the color pictured above. I have an older pair I ebayed that are lighter still.

As I wrote in another thread "ravello" shade presents reddish tones, not brownish. Never seen in person the old exclusive shade by Horween for Alden's shoes, mahogany, probably much more reddish.
Instead "dark cognac" for Ralph Lauren is very brownish shade, even if on different degree. For instance very light in plain toe blucher, much more dark in wing tip.

I think Ravello is my favorite Alden color, for me anyways. I think #8 can be dressier, and certainly black, but I don't wear suits, so...
