So after buying a lot of shoes over the past years, I came to realize that there are several styles that just don't look good on me (due to whatever reasons: ages, body types, sense of style, profession/career types, life styles, etc.,) Do you guys have any shoes that don't look good on you? And let's limit ourselves to MC's kind of shoes only. I have tried but they don't look good on me: - Monks - Full brogues (perforated wingtips) - Tassel Loafers I think they would not look good on me: - Longwings What're yours?

They don't look good on me :

- double buckle monks

- loafers where the tongue is not high

That's all I can think of, maybe models that have wide/large round toes.

I can't wear tassels. I think very few of these shoes are actual "doesn't look good" and far more "can't wrap our heads around wearing."

Tassel loafers definitely, or pretty much any loafer for that matter. Strap monks look good on me, but I don't really care for them.

It's because that's IMO the #1 culprit of the phenomenon: looks good off the foot, looks weird on the foot. Mostly the toe cap shape and proportions, yes.

Another vote for tassel loafers. Particularly those with a low vamp, like the ones Alden makes for BB. I bought a pair in shell once, back when I was shell crazy and bought pretty much anything made of horse's ass. The shoes are nice, but I just can't pull them off.

+1.

They tend to look more like slippers for some reason.

Any low vamp loafer looks awful on me. Shoes with very thin soles such as Bally also are unflattering on me.

this is a great topic. i always had an opinion on this particular subject but never thought to bring it up here.

it is strange, i love the look (actually it is my favorite shoe design per se) of a dark brown or burgundy polished semi brogue or captoe.

but when worn, it does not look good on me at all. i dont know if it is just me, i cant figure it out, it just makes my feet look disappeared. in whatever kind of lighting or pant color. i dont like the look. the shoe itself? love the look.

i dont particularly like moccassin type shoes. they arent pretty in shoe Appreciation pictures at all. they arent really classic like wingtips or captoes.

but for some reason, they moc toe shoe or loafers, look the best on me. i really wish they didnt.

Oh dear, we're just opposite. I love the look of full brogues but can't pull them off. But since my clothes assembles are quite simple (texture and design-wise) and I'm young, full brogues just don't go well with my clothes (at least to my eyes). Captoes and Semi brogues in the other hands go perfectly well.
