Home Decor Trend Shops in NYC - recommendations wanted

I am visiting NYC with my client and her creative director at the end of the month. They develop home decor accessories for the major markets. In addition to our meetings with licensors we will have some time to do some trend shopping.

What stores would you recommend we visit for home decor trends and ideas. We will visit ABC and John Derian. Any others?

Conran Shop if you haven't already been. ABC is a must go

I'm glad you suggested Conran. I haven't been there in ages and it had fallen off my radar. One meeting is in the Village. Any places there to recommend?

Room & Board has an impressive store in Soho - not much trend spotting there but interesting to see the scale of that showroom.

There are three or four great design stores to see on Lafayette St between Astor and Bleecker and a shop or two when you turn on Bleecker. I'm mentioning it because they're all very closely located.

CB2 in Soho may not be a bad place to see mass market trends

The one on Bleeker that gdl is talking about is Todd Merrill and a must see. Antique "modern" furniture though, not decor trends. In that same realm there are a also few modern furniture shops on Bond across from 40 Bond and are worth checking out.

One of my favourites is BDDW on Crosby. Great american furniture and a very cool space. Also check out the sculpture garden and antique shop on Elizabeth south of Houston.

All of these are within a few minutes walk.

Probably not what you're looking for.

for a bit more contemporary but not drab, there's also Baker and another place across the street. I belive they're at Varick and N. Moore.

Thanks for the ideas.

How is the home decor section of Bergdorf (upstairs women's side) these days? What about Takashimaya? Are they worth seeing?

The BG one is very small and IMO only worth visiting if you are already there. There are some nice things but very focused on table arts and small objects - no furniture or larger pieces.

Takashimaya is cool and worth a quick visit.
The home dept of the RL mansion is a must see, especially the back room.

My favorite store in Soho is Thomas O'Brien's Aero Studios. Is it bad when the store girls know me by name?
