I am looking for a good black barathea fabric for a dinner jacket in a 9-10 oz weight. I was hoping that people would have some recommendations. I have already checked out the 11 oz Fischer. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Bumping this thread, because I'm also interested in hearing whether anyone has recommendations for a particular black barathea cloth in this weight range.

Smith. Only choice.

Well, there is also H&S but Smith is much better IMO.

Lesser does not make lighter formal cloth and 12 oz. There is no Harrison formal book.

Is this the preferred weight for Air Conditioned/heated rooms? I have heard that because women wear dresses without backs/shoulders a lighter weight is best.

I chuckled that you didn't even deign to comment on the Italians...

I don't know, I just run a tad warm. I own some 11 oz + stuff that I rather like, but it is not great for the summer in my neck of the woods. I am thinking 9-10 oz would be ideal for me personally.

I too got a laugh out of this. There is much love on the forum for Italian tailors, but much less love for Italian cloth.

Now you tell me about Smith. I didn't like the H&S barathea either so I went with the Scabal. The Scabal is ok but not great. The sample felt better than the garment. *sigh*

I've worn the Fisher in the tropical Boston summer and survived.

What does your tailor recommend?
