Countdown to Breaking Bad!!! - Page 14

Such a clusterfuck of character contradictions makes this show awesome:

--the cop who threatened a guy's life for beating a woman (ostensibly a good cause), but now uses all measures to work for bad causes

--Jesse who uses an 11 year old kid as a pre-text for wanting to avenge Combo's murder

--Walt who was content with secluding himself in a lab far away from the seedy underworld of the product he makes (implicitly) gets called out for it, does something about it, yet he and Jesse still can't seem to look beyond their immediate circumstances and look to the bigger picture (as though avenging one 11 year old kid means anything in their trade).

etc, etc.

Great episode.

The look on Hank's face post-hand job was funny as hell.

I'm sure many people who do things that involve "bad causes" still think beating a woman is wrong. Jesse is just using whatever he can as an excuse to stir shit up.

I was at home alone when I watched this episode; there was nobody there to interact with. And yet, when Walt executed that guy, I literally leapt up out of my chair and shouted "HOLY SHIT!!"

All good points, though I think Jesse's feelings about the kid are all genuine. Like a lot of criminals, he has a soft spot for kids, and the fact that he's his new girlfriend's little brother makes it all the more repugnant to him. The losses he's suffered of late lead to his needing these personal connections more than ever, and seeing his girlfriend's pain at what's happened to her little brother probably broke the last straw for him.

I hadn't laughed that hard in a while!

Extra long finale next week, I think? Much badassery from Walt, Mike and Jesse. I dunno bout Gus though. Why is he even letting some low-level street dealers see his face?

.think about the acting skills it takes to do 50 minutes in just one space lab/winnebago (for most part) with just two actors, brilliant.

I'm playing catch up with my DVR so just saw this episode. It was a "bottle episode" or "bottle show."

Prod companies tend to spend a lot on season openers, sweeps week and season finales. That leaves a few shows in the middle where they need to save money. So they lock two or three characters in a room (on an existing set) and have them talk. Cheap as hell. The term comes from Star Trek, but many series used this to great effect. Think about MASH where the entire episode takes place in the OR.

While they lack action, they are usually great opportunities for writers and actors to explore character and theme.

I just wanted to say again, FUCKING AWESOME episode. My girlfriend flipped out when Walt ran those guys over. I just said "wow" when he shot the guy in the head. What a way to end an episode. Incredible how I'm still thinking about it.

I don't know- I think Gus could easily find someone else to cook. For example, that guy that was working with Walt probably knows the recipe exactly by now.

Was I the only one who thought Walt's last-second intervention was a little too deus ex machina?
