Walt has been victorious, in one way or another, over all his foes. He is the last man standing. Then, in the last 20 seconds, something happens to let the viewers know the cancer is back and this time it's going to kill him.

Regarding your theory.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Can't be right. We already saw in the flash-forward from the first episode of this season that his cancer was back and Walt was aware of this. This was before he took the large gun to do whatever it is he was planning on.

I missed or forgot that flash forward. What happened there exactly?

It would probably be better if you re-watched the first episode of this season, but at one point Walt pulls out some pills that indicate he is back on medicine for his cancer again. I'm not 100% sure about this other part, but I believe I remember him coughing up a little blood too? All implications were that his cancer returned.

Thanks. That doesn't negate what I said though. Just knowing the cancer is back doesn't mean he's about to push daisies. Remember, he was inoperable at first and suddenly is cancer free after the surgery. I think the last 20 seconds or so is Walt with no dangers left to him from external sources..and then we get indication he's about to drop dead due to cancer.

Perhaps you are right, but my gut says it's too big of a plot point to reintroduce unless otherwise. Walt appeared to be ready to engage in what could be drastic actions with the gun. Something easier to take if you know you are going to die. Also, don't forget the line from Skyler about her hope that his cancer returns as a means to get Walt out of her life. This is a show that is carefully planned out by it's creators. They often leave seeds to the end game. I think it's safe to say the signs are here and the implications are that it is going to kill him this time.

On the other hand it could all be a giant red herring. patch[1].gif

Part of why I think this is due to Skylar's comment you mention. The more I think about it, the more I say Walt triumphs over all the human threats...and loses at the very end to cancer. I could even see Walt standing victorious on the field of battle he uses that big gun for...then quick cut to him in a hospital bed, tubes galore, and you hear his tele monitor flatline.

I agree with that. Was really just pointing out that it probably wouldn't be framed as a surprise in the final moments since they already revealed the cancer is returning. Have no problem seeing them end the show with Walt loosing his life to the cancer. If they really want to make it a tragic final, they could have it happen with him alone in the hospital. Non of his family or friends there to be with him.

No way he loses to cancer. He's going to look that cancer right in the eyes and tell it, "Say my name." Then he's going to poison his cancer with depleted uranium from the bullets for the machine gun and he's going to rule the Meth world with an iron fist and live forever, riding across the skies in a flying RV.

I figure that too. Need that meme pick about "all alone."

IMO,the killing was sound calculus.
Also, who's to say Mike was not planning to shoot Walt in that scene. First thing Mike did was look for that gun.

Exactly. This was the only reasonable option. And yes, Walt HAS to go after the rest of the gang. My guess is that's what the last episode is about.

+1

Also so weird seeing Todd on this show if you watched Friday Night Lights. He was such a beta pansy on that show.
