Countdown to Breaking Bad!!! - Page 105

Was there a rational reason for Walt to kill Mike, or was it just something done out of anger?

I ask, because if it was intentional on Walt's part to kill Mike so as to eliminate him as a loose end then there's no way Walt won't try to kill Jesse. Jesse is now out of the operation. What reason is there for Walt to let Jesse live?

^ I believe it could have gone either way really. Mike not "thanking" Walt (plus his critique of his ego) pushed him over the edge I think.

All ego. Him storming off and then stomping back to shoot Mike.

^ That's what made the whole scene so tense. The way it was framed, I was just waiting for one of them to shoot the other (especially the last time Mike turned his back to go to his car).

Since Walt uttered his thoughts about what happened to Victor it was more or less clear to me Mike would eventually die by his hand.

When they started arguing again I thought: ok, that's it then. When Walt went back to his car, but the camera stayed in position, it was painfully obvious.

I agree, also as Walt becomes more Heisenberg he is not going to be pushed around anymore. All the times Mike had put a gun to Walt's head and was going to kill him just reached a breaking point. He went to that meeting knowing he might have to kill Mike, that's why he took the gun from the bag.

Walt killed Mike mainly because the DEA was on to him so hard that Mike was going out on the lamb and also because Mike's guy had just been arrested and was apparently flipping. Mike had assured Walt many times none of his guys would flip and there goes someone that's a lynchpin in Mike's chain of command.

IMO,the killing was sound calculus.

Also, who's to say Mike was not planning to shoot Walt in that scene. First thing Mike did was look for that gun.

Btw, I have the final 20 seconds of the last episode figured out.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Walt has been victorious, in one way or another, over all his foes. He is the last man standing. Then, in the last 20 seconds, something happens to let the viewers know the cancer is back and this time it's going to kill him.

I really think Walt didn't plan to shoot Mike. He may have intended to merely disarm Mike, or he may have wanted to use the gun to threaten Mike for the names, but based on his panicked reaction immediately after he shot (even the moment before Mike sped off), I think he snapped and let his careless Heisenberg side take over. That's why I truly believe this is the beginning of the end, when he really begins to unravel.

He was looking more for the money and passports, he already had a gun.

Regarding your theory.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Can't be right. We already saw in the flash-forward from the first episode of this season that his cancer was back and Walt was aware of this. This was before he took the large gun to do whatever it is he was planning on.
