Do women keep doors open for you?

Is it expected, as a polite gesture, for a lady to keep a door open for a man if she was the first to enter? I've been keeping the doors open for women for as long as I can remember, even when I was the first to enter. However, recent observations made me realize that many of them don't do the same for me. Am I the only one who got this treatment? Some of the ladies (biotches) out there are downright rude, and most corporate doors don't stay open long enough, the damn thing springs shut like a guillotine to conserve AC/money.

Everyone opens the door for everyone here. It's generally the same in Austin, and if they don't get the door, it's because they weren't paying attention, and not because they were trying to be rude.

I am an old man. Nubile young women often open doors for me. They also let me in front of them in line for the cashier. I have received many phone numbers in this fashion, which have led to many entertaining times. Behind closed doors.

Dakotarube. You should write a book in the way of Manton. I'd buy it to advance my swagger with the ladies.

People are rude where I live. As a matter of courtesy, I always try to keep the door open or open the door for both men and women. Rarely do I ever see anyone else do it for others, but if so it most often is an older gentlemen. I have seen a woman do so every once in awhile.

Most of the time, yes.

Kind of annoyed when someone I hold the door for doesn't even acknowledge my presence as they sweep into the store. This is mostly soccer moms in semi-luxe SUVs, who must think their local Barnes & Noble has hired a doorman.

When this happens (frequently, unfortunately, as good manners are dying out in the US), I usually call out a snide-sounding "You're welcome" to their retreating backsides.

Doesn't matter if you're a man or woman, it is the right and polite thing to do to open the door or keep the door open for everyone. I think only elderly/handicapped people get priority.

I almost always allow women through doors first as a matter of courtesy so I've never had occasion to note if a woman doesn't hold a door.

That's one of my biggest pet peeves. When you hold the door for someone with the assumption they will grab it and walk in behind you but they swoop past you as if you're a doorman.
