+1 and get a much less expensive sailboat with a bed to crash occasionally if that's what you want.

I think living in a cool luxury yacht sounds like a good idea when you think about it but look at it this way, yachts are meant for trips, not prolonged periods of living. The spaces you will be working with won't be as nice as say a Condo or luxury apartment. I would just get a nice luxury apartment near and overlooking the ocean.

It would only be cool if you re-docked it every couple weeks traveling to exotic locales. Coming there every day like an apartment would get cramped.

this is a crazy idea, mainly for the reason that gdl mentioned. plus, from what i know about boats they are crazily expensive to maintain. if you really want a boat...well, do they do home equity lines of credit in your country? as underleveraged as your house is, you could use some of that equity to see how you like boat ownership without losing your residence. i don't like the boat idea, but what would really be cool is if you lived in a pineapple under the sea!

A couple of my colleagues have lived on boats, it was a nuisance once the novelty wore off, the upkeep was a pain and those were houseboats. That said both stuck it out for more than two years. I have spent a bit of time on similarly sized sunseekers to the ones you posted, I don't think they would be great to live on long term if you were not cruising around basking in the sun and drinking in port every night. The rooms, when you think of them as rooms rather than cabins on a boat, are tiny. I imagine the gin palace décor would get fairly wearying after a while, and as others have mentioned they cost a ton to run/maintain.

So we already mentioned Sonny Crockett.
We might also take inspiration from MacGyver:

or the guys from King Harbor:

And if you want a real boat, go for sth. classic, like the Southwind aka Riptide.

Wise words indeed!

I had a friend who lived on a fairly nice houseboat in Amsterdam. Great in the summer, but sucked when he had to chip ice out of his toilet in the middle of winter...

I had a look at a few boats now and the idea is not feasible, simply because of the little practical things Like cabin space, heating in the winter etc...

It's a shame, I was really set on gettin' myself a pet alligator.
