What's normal for a 20 year old? Google was surprisingly unhelpful. Just tested at 455 which seems low to me, but the doctor said it was fine.

FWIW, I remember reading here that doctors tend to state it's normal if it falls within the range for ALL adults, regardless of age. Meaning you could be at the normal level for a 65 year old, and your doctor would say that's "normal." I assume the do this because testosterone therapy is permanent (you do if for the rest of your life) and it increases your risk for certain diseases.

I got mine tested awhile ago, and heard nothing from the doctor. I had to call him for a response, and all he said was mine came out to be "normal" and suggested avoiding phytoestrogen foods (look it up, it was things I don't normally eay anyway, but they can reduce testosterone levels).

What are your symptoms? Sometimes I feel like mine might be low for being 23, but I'm not sure if it's physical or psychological (as in possible minor depression, etc.)

fyi:

"Reference ranges for normal Testosterone levels are broad and vary greatly depending on the source, with approximately 250-800 ng/dl being an accepted normal range."

Live journal emo blog entry: I am starting to think I may have a problem -- in the last two weeks I haven't been feeling right and have lost a lot of weight (particularly muscle)... I am hoping that starting to eat more and a bit of working out will fix me

Yeah, that's my problem as well. Most of my symptoms can also be caused by depression which I definitely have.

Not to threadjack, but are you taking anythng for depression? I was thinking about talking to my doc...do you undereat? That could be a practical cause of weight loss and all that. There are also lists of foods that supposedly promote testosterone production that you can google (avocado, nuts, salmon, oysters...zinc comes to mind)

actually, he's quite right. If you still get morning wood, then your test lvls are pretty normal. Esp at your age.

They fluctuate, hence the range.

Nothing that a little porn and masturbation into a two-ply Kleenex can't cure.

Testosterone is not your problem.

As someone who is in a semi-permanent depressionesque state I get where you're coming from. With me that state is exacerbated with sedentary living. There is also, with me, a huge correlation between active living and sporting (morning) wood. ...

Depressed people make me more depressed, so I have learned to avoid them. Stop talking to depressed friends. They are infectious.
