No clue why I am poasting this. Other than, I've never heard of half of these. WTF is Black Velvet? Why's it selling 2.5-3 times as much as Jack Daniels Black/twice as much as Captain Morgan?

This is by 'cases sold', btw.

I once wanted to build an estate in the rolling foothills of Montana. But these liquor choices depress me. Evan Williams, the best value whiskey made in America, is not even top 10?!

Black Velvet is a mid-lower level Canadian whisky.

Montanans are un-American.

They like their Canadian whisky there. Three of the top ten selling spirits? And that R&R? We used to say it stood for "Royal Rotgut."

Ugh, you monarchist half-huns make sick! Onward my Celtic brothers! 'Twas Britannia bade our Wild Geese go that small nations might be free But their lonely graves are by Sulva's waves or the shore of the Great North Sea Oh, had they died by Pearse's side or fought with Cathal Brugha Their names we will keep where the fenians sleep 'neath the shroud of the foggy dew

I'm glad you brought that up. I had never heard of the R&R but didn't want to show my ignorance.

Left-most bottle on this wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:CanadianWhisky.JPG

Conne, have you tried Evan Williams 1783? Much better than Black IMO, while costing maybe a couple of bucks more.

Nikolai Vodka is #2? I remember drinking that shit when I was 14 and thinking it tasted like rubbing alcohol. It was the only thing I could afford with a $10/wk allowance.

About half of those labels have been inland Pacific Northwest staples for 30 years. All but the vodka, actually: replace them with Smirnov and nothing would have changed.

Surprised that Smiroff isn't on the list...

There's a scene in Bumfights in which a homeless gentleman pulls out one of his own teeth with a pair of pliers in exchange for a pint of Black Velvet.

Black Velvet = ~10 (American) dollars for a half gallon vs Jack Daniels = ~15 bucks for a fifth. Also, Montana is a hotbed of alcoholism. And a large, non-PC (for lack of a better term) factor is the number of reservations and Native Americans.
