Music stand purchase

I would like something portable, but very solidly built. I hate those crappy wire things that tip and bend so easily. Is there a Brigg of music stands?

Manhassat. Usually about 80 bucks. Used by everybody. Want to spend more money? Great gear but $$$$$. Wenger. Here's my Manhassat from today. Can handle anything.

Yes, most people do own the Manhasset, but they're not very portable (and most of the ones I see are stamped with a school name to boot). The K & M is a great portable stand (Konig & Meyer), but a bit hard to find. Take a look at these: http://www.musicstandsalone.com/product/MA-11100 http://www.musicstandsalone.com/product/MA-10700

I like K&M also. Johnson Strings in Newton, MA has a nice folding metal stand that is cheap and comes in about 10 colors. Not as good, but a little lighter and adequate for using while seated. There's another more substantial one they carry called Hercules that is OK.

I'm going to go with the K&M. I don't know when I'll be able to get out to Newton again, and the K&M is exactly what I'm looking for (provided it is more solid than the flimsy butterfly ones I've used before). The Manhassat is nice but not portable. We have them at school.

What is wrong with it?

Have you used the Scherzo? Is it hardy?

I have the jazz stand, and it's more than hardy - it's unkillable. I get compliments on it all the time.

I used to perform a lot as a classical soloist. Two things:

You can actually get a folding Manhasset from a few places. The top (the stand) is fixed with a telescoping/folding base. They're built like tanks.

For normal gigs, though, I use a K&M. Great stand, and it's done me well since college.
