Someone Using My Email to Signup for Crap!

So someone out there has been using my personal email address to sign up for various garbage websites. They like to sign up for paid survey websites, online school information, pharmaceutical information and various other shit. I have no idea why someone would use a fake, or in this case my email address to sign up on websites. Most of these sites require email validation of the account so they're unable to use the account after signing up. I'm assuming it's a real person because they use the same name, Bob Glass, all the time.

Any ideas on what I can do outside of changing my email address? This shit has been happening on and off for well over a year.

There isn't shit you can do except unsubscribe.. It's worth having two email addresses though. I use hotmail and gmail. When I have to register for websites and anything else like that I always use hotmail so that if I get put on junk lists etc I don't really care. The only accounts tied to my gmail are things like banking sites, ebay, etc. This helps keep my gmail account clean.

Haha. I do something similar. You know how a lot of stores ask for a phone number when you make a purchase? I always assume this is so the can get around the Do Not Call Registry through the provision that allows them to call if you've done business with them. To avoid calls I always give a phone number that's one digit different from mine. It's easy to remember, and I can say it naturally. Sometimes I kind of feel bad and wonder if the person who has a phone number that's one digit different from mine is receiving all my annoying telemarketing calls.

I get this as well since I have a six-character Gmail address (which I've been using since before Gmail was available outside of Google). I know the full name, address and phone number of one woman who used to try to use my account, and I still receive attempts at registering on various forums and sites from a few people. I am also on some family in India's mailing list and receive regular Catholic blessings from people in the Philippines. I don't think there's much you can do about it. Happily, spam levels have dropped significantly since a bunch of major servers were killed about a year ago. From one every five minutes to one every hour now, and all picked up by the filters.

Most spam gets caught in the filter but since these messages are coming from "legit" companies I almost feel bad marking them as spam since it isn't in the technical sense. If I had this person's physical address I could at least send them a letter by snail mail saying "knock that shit off". If I had their IP address I wonder if I could call their ISP? I do have another email address but I've been using this one for so long it would be tough to give it up. Thanks for the feedback. I figured there wasn't much I could do. Just wanted to throw it out there to see if someone had a brilliant idea.
