Many thanks for posting this. I have been to Sakai a few times and have been curious about these small workshops. There is one knife shop I saw from a taxi that looks amazing from the window but I didn't have time to stop...I plan to drop in some time when I am next around the area.

Loved the photos and the writing - thanks for posting that.

I'm a bit scandalized that they use machines (grinding wheels???) though - I'd hoped they would all have workshops under waterfalls and things like that, and it would take them months to turn out a single knife. Ah well, another romantic image dashed on the rocks of economic reality.
