What do we think of this? http://jalopnik.com/5482841/gallery-2011-audi-rs5 I heard it's going to be around 100K - seems waaaaaaaaaaaay too much.

I'd take it. Price is supposed to be on par with the next M5...

Yeah $100k is about right, £65k for real people! My Dad has the S5 at the moment, and ... I don't know, it just doesn't feel like a car thats worth the money. I can't speak for the M5, but Audi are just a little too sensible for me at the moment.

What will Audi's designers do when it physically becomes impossible to make the front grille larger without obstructing the driver's view? Will that signal the end of that particular series?

This should be priced around that of an M3. Comparing it to an M5 is stupid.

That's what the S5 is for...

The S5 is closer to a 335i xDrive Coupe. The M5's equivalent would be an RS6.

Isn't the RS5 more in line with the M6, rather than a 4-door?

If it gets the RS6's V10 engine, then they're on to a winner.

In terms of sizing, the S5 is closer to BMW's 3-series coupe than the 6-series.

agreed, but it seems like this is going after the M6 - sounds like it is going to be priced like a 6 as well - from my experience, the A5 feels and drives bigger behind the wheel than my 3.

Car looks nice. Would be great with the V10 engine.

no

100K for an Audi on par with a 60K BMW? Sounds about right. This should come as no surprise really.

Audi continues to play catch up.

FWIW (Geek alert), I looked up the sizing of the 3 coupe / 6 / S5.

The Audi is between the two...the 6 is 9" longer than the Audi and a little heavier, but wheelbase, height and width are near as dammit the same. The 3 is a little narrower and lighter than the Audi.

Is there another Audi that competes directly with the M6, if the RS5 is not it? It could well depend on the engine...V8 with 400+ BHP (RS4 and M3) or V10 with over 500BHP (RS6 and M5).

Does any Beemer compete with the TT...1-series coupe, perhaps?

I looked again. The segmentation people at Audi were perhaps a bit confused. I'm sorry for the RS5 for being in the middle of the M3 and M6.
