I expected this to be the standard response. People who (want to) LOOK rich shop at the places everyone is listing.

AFAIK all the really rich people around here shop when they travel somewhere nicer.

Shop for what? Bill Gates and Paul Allen are rich enough to where they don't go to "stores". Stores come to them.

I live in the Bay Area for the most part ... but shop in London. I doubt I've been in a men's store in San Francisco in more than ten years.

South Congress, the Domain, the RR Outlets- the same places that everyone else shop at.

Theres a pretty huge difference between being top 5% (which is what, making a good living, upper middle class) and the people who are being talked about who have "people to shop for them" (people that make at least well into the seven figures). IT depends on the person, a lot of wealthy people don't have good taste or care about clothes, so they might shop at Macys, the Gap, etc. The stereotypical "rich person" (which includes, old money, new money, and wants-to-pretend money) where I live shops at Barneys, Neimans, Bloomingdales, Boyds (Philadelphia), etc...the expected. Those who really care about fashion, etc might go to NYC for the day (or even Paris, London) but, I'd say thats more the overly fashion conscious not overly wealthy.

Anecdotally, most of top 1% in NYC (or any major city) aren't much into clothes and shop at whatever convenient shops are respectable brands for their socio-economic level...e.g., Bergdorf is a common one-stop shop for many NYC investment bankers/traders

Those who care more about their clothes prob have longstanding relationships w/tailors locally...and/or in cities known for certain garments, e.g., Paris for Charvet bespoke shirts

But walk any trading floor in NYC and will rarely see anyone (no matter how much pay) particularly well-dressed....some guys may splurge on shoes but wear mediocre suits and/or shirts or watches/links, etc....or wear a $7K suit but ride a smelly, sweaty cab/subway to office....lots of inconsistencies among those who can easily afford any clothes or cars or watches on planet

I certainly wouldn't be one to tell you about the habits of rich people around here, but the "nice" "lifestyle center" (eg. outdoor mall catering to the older, more upwardly-mobile crowd) around here mostly consists of stores catering exclusively to women (White House Black Market / Anthropologie) but also has stuff like J. Crew, Brooks Brothers, DSW, and Johnston & Murphy.

As you can imagine, I've never bought a single thing there.

We're getting an outlet mall 20 minutes out of town that will have an Off Rack along with a few other things like John Varvatos, etc.
