The main forum focuses on traditional styles of dress, so it should be no surprise that a beautiful, gray worsted three piece with a powder blue shirt is going to receive more praise than an LV advertisement featuring Pharrell decked out in gold and fur. Lumping Pharrell, Kanye, and OB into the same group is a poor generalization--Kanye is an ass without much fashion sense other than what stylists provide, Pharrell does the media-star/playboy look well, and OB caught a lot of flack in the past for his (loose) association with Savile Row. Richard James has provoked similar ire for his Slovakian made garments and "Savile Row" label, but I guess no one threw a fit because he isn't black.

[/OUOTE]Im guessing you're (another) lawyer. I always thought an appropriate legal dress should be as unobtrusive as possible, especially if a jury is involved.

I don't think it's a "poor generalization" at all. These 3 men seem to draw the ire of many posters for simply dressing in the manner in which they want. These 3 men put their own definition on fashion. And, yes they are all Black. Besides these 3 men being Black many posters on this board seem to take their criticisms of these men to a personal level. How can you say Kanye is an ass? Do you know him? C'mon that's weak. Some other posters were saying that OB is smug because he was driving his Bentley on his TV show. Another criticism that has nothing to do with the man's business, his clothes. I'm sure that no other poster said disparaging things about Richard James on a personal level. If so please correct me. If you all just criticized the clothing tastes of Kanye, Puffy, OB, Pharrell, etc, I would have no problem but many posters want to throw up cultural stereotypes and personal attacks. And that's why I think many of these "critiques" are racist.

Oh, I dress how I feel. And, it depends on where the jury trial is located and the racial makeup of the jury.

While fashion-forward elements may get incorporated in to what people like and wear, this is NOT GQForum or whatever.

Plus I am not even American, I do not share the same biases and views as you and others on the forum do so you cannot use such rubbish. "Haterz" style rubbish will get you nowhere in getting people to agree with your opinions. This is not some sort of gamerz or whatever forum where the extent of debate usually degenerates to name calling and proclaiming that people who disagree with you are haterz, racists, bashers, et.c.

Stelios

I haven't posted any pictures. Check out the posters who posted pictures.

Post Katrina fund-raiser with Mike Myers. Most of his interviews reflect a similar self-importance. I haven't had a conversation with the man personally, but he is a public figure, and has definitely rightfully earned his reputation as an ass.

Richard James didn't decide to air a reality show to promote his brand. Posters chose to criticize OB's persona because he elected to share carefully selected aspects about his life in 30 minutes segments.

My post earlier was in regards to the many posters who seem to think that all Black men dress in a tasteless manner. Don't try to act like many of the posters on this board don't have a stereotypical view of the dress of Black men. And if you can't see it, I feel for you.

Apparently you're of the opinion that Black men have a stereotypical dress. Might I suggest reading the thread about Kofi Annans shirtings? Posters were quick to compliment the fit and choice of his wardrobe DESPITE his MAJOR ethical shortcomings.

Who in the world is Pharrell? I recognize him from a GQ spread a few months back -- I seem to remember he was "modeling" these hideous "customized" outfits -- but have no idea what he does.

I don't know either who he is either. Looks like a male equivalent of Britney Spears in tastelessness though from what I see. Nouvau riche celebrities who flaunt their riches are not something I follow.

I prefer Andre 3000.

to be honest: i always liked this forum. but this thread is really a shame. there is so much hate, envy and hidden racism.....all about a bloody lv ad.

as someone said: pharrell is a musician, a rock-star.....and one of the most respected in the game. and he is definitely stylish. maybe not in a "styleforum" sense, but just ask your girlfriend....she will tell you.
and he likes to dress. given that he is coming from a hip hop background i think he is very inspiring for lots of people because he wears more traditional pieces in a modern, young and urban way. and i think he is looking good.

and what is wrong about LV trying to boost their image with one of the few style icons in modern pop music? i think its quite bold.

bottom line: it seems, some of you really don't like hip hop music, rap stars or pharrel. i don't know why. considering all recent music stars (black or white), he is a superb dresser. he has given "classic male" attire definitely a boost with his style and introduced many guys to the stuff we all like. so what is all that hate about......yealous?

my 2 cents

No hate from me -- I just didn't know who in the world Pharrell was.

Oh, please. I have seen nothing from anything posted so far that gives any sort of indication of sense over money. Like every other fucking celebrity, white black, asian et.c. who has more money than sense. What is so bloody hard to understand? I could give a rat's arse about who he is. Being a successful musician means nothing as far as style. Are you so shortsighted that you are afraid to see your idol described as less than stellar in dress? Sorry if that appears too direct for you but there you have it. I don't like country music, I don't like most rap, I don't like most pop. I don't like Franz Ferdinand and their type either. What is your point? Show me some pictures where this Pharell guy is well dressed and I'll cede your point. So far all I have seen is celebwear. Btw, why is this guy so important anyway? Is he an artist, a manager a producer, what?
He's a producer and sometimes a singer.
he is not my idol. he is a producer and an artist. he produced about 20 top-ten hits in the last 2 or 3 years.

he is definitely far away from wearing standard celebwear or fashion. he is as interested in male attire than most of the members of this forum. he might be a bit more extravagant...maybe a bit more "show off", "bling bling" or "in your face". but hey....he is a rockstar, he is under 30, he earned millions of dollars in a few years. and he still has his roots in hip hop/street wear and is still "growing up" from sportswear to suits like many other guys his age.

the point YOU don't get is, that he is doing a lot for style and male attire. there are millions of young guys dressing in jeans and jerseys. they won't know this forum. and they might not have many good dressers in their vicinity. but if guys like pharrel or andre show that there is a lot more than fubu or roca wear, they might become interested in "real" clothes.

Kamala, get over yourself. You'd love for there to be racism when there really isn't so that you can reveal to everyone that you're black and make us all feel ashamed of ourselves. For every famous black male I can point out for looking like a cartoon character, I can name at least 5 white males so this has nothing to do with race. Again, I concede that Pharell knows how to put together outfits and is definately considered stylish in the under 30 crowd, but this ad alone is a logo orgasm. I'll give it 6 months until Louis Vuitton comes out with an ultra high end version of the Von Dutch hat. $500 for some type of assinine, blue collar inspired affection for some imbicile like Ashton Kutcher to wear.

I get your point however I don't agree with it. As I said, please point out where he is putting himself together tastefully. All you have put out there as an argument is that "at least he is getting some people to see better stuff." What better stuff? Anyway, why should I care what he wears? Look below, btw.: Btw,

EXACTLY Why are we even giving this person so much attention anyway?
