I'm still waiting on the new dyes, which should be here tomorrow. I'll post samples when they get here. I have a black shortie that has been sitting around for a little while. SOLD (in 15 minutes lol)
The new dyes finally arrived, and I did some test strips. I'm really liking the British Tan and the Cordovan. British tan is a honey-colored mid-brown, very similar to the color of my year-old card case that started as natural. The Cordovan is a very rich dark brown, with some red undertones. I need to make myself something out of these colors! There's Black along the bottom, natural in the middle, British Tan on the left, and Cordovan on the right.
here's a couple pics of my keys. should i (you) just use a d-ring to connect the main VW key, or is there another small part that would work better to take advantage of the leather separation?
Hey Otis- You will need keyhook 01 with the two D-rings. I use keyhook 02 with my later model VW remote/key, because it has a wide slot at the top of the remote. See below for mine...
I have a sample of the Keyhook 01 in British Tan, SOLD I can also swap out the hardware for brass if you prefer. Also, I bought myself half a cow today (9-10 oz, so real thick), so I'm going to start making belts soon. Custom width, length, and color (from what I have but can get others), and everything will be hand cut, finished, and stitched. No rivets. I just need to pick up some buckles...
Got my hook yesterday (shipped on Sat from UT to Portland?! Fast!). Looks awesome! I just need to figure out how to streamline the car key part. I don't like how low it hangs now--think it's as simple as getting a smaller ring to bring the key itself as close to the D ring as possible.

That sounds great. A belt that is close in colour to RM Williams' "Claret" would be fantastic (maybe with some nice quick-release buckle).
^I don't have any dye in a burgundy/wine color, but I will look for some the next time I am at the leather shop. I might be able to get some of the 'lesser grade' silver QR buckles (by no means poor quality, just not as nice as the EG ones. I have used one for a year or more and it's been great), but I will keep looking for others. Otis- try using as small of a split ring as you can. That will keep it from hanging so low. I have to say, I've been very impressed by how quick the First Class shipping has been.

I don't look at the qr buckle as a prerequisite but it would be nice. Maybe even having the option of a snap instead of stitching the buckle down.
