In need of a replacement. I'm not dropping almost $2K on a Miele, (my wife's choice).
Any suggestions appreciated. Looking at Samsung, LG and Kenmore.

Don't be mad, but have your considered a Miele? Otherwise the Kenmore gets quite good reviews depending on the model.

Miele. Your wife's made a good choice. I don't think there's a better machine here in Singapore ....

I have the LG steam wash and it works very well and expensive

We just picked the new Samsung WF-407 (with steam) (in red, no less ). It's been very good. Very water efficient.

I've got front loading Samsung steam washers and dryers that changed my effing life. Go for the biggest size you can get.

look at who makes the samsung or kenmore. chances are it's LG. they make a lot of products that are rebadged and sold by other "manufacturers". I've had an LG washer as well as the steam dryer for about 3-4 years and they're unbeatable. And definitely spend the extra $$$ on the steam dryer. it's awesome.

Thanks guys - Checked out the Miele's today (after looking at Kenmore, LG and Samsung).
They appear to have a Sh*tload of functions and an extra year (2 total) of warranty thrown in.
Seriously considering these now.

What? Only 2 years guarantee for a Miele? That doesn't sound very good. There are many reports on the web that generally say the following:

1. Yes, Miele is still the best.
2. People from inside Miele admit that the new machines are not built as well as the older ones and their life expectancy has decreased significantly.
3. If the machine has a problem, you have to pay a lot to fix it, and it will probably be a better choice to just buy a new one.

I don't even know what I have (fiancee handles that stuff) but whatever we have just had to have the seal in the front replaced and it was roughly $500. Kinda ridiculous for a big piece of rubber to be replaced if you ask me. Seems like the new systems are badass when working but pieces of shit as far as reliability across most of the brands.

2 Years Parts & Labor Warranty. I believe they guarantee it for 20 Years (whatever that means).
Anyways onto the next question - as Laundry Equipment is neither my field of expertise or interest. Gas or Electric on the 'Tumble Dryer'and any obvious +/-'s? We currently have Gas. My wife is out of the Country for anpther 10 days and I want to get an order placed tomorrow.

I wanted a bare bones top loader. I got one as a house warming gift. My only complaint, and it's a biggie, is that it has auto water level sensing. It doesn't work at all and ends up filling the washer up all the way. It drives me nuts.

Miele is a great machine. Sadly, quality has probably gone down even on these over the years. Hope it works out for you!

Reliability, quality and convenience are important. Miele might be very nice, but is there someone locally who can fix it quickly if it breaks down? (I like Miele products, at least their vacuums, but that is something lots of shops near me carry and I can take it out for repair if I need to, lots harder with a washer.) My bias is toward Kenmore or Whirlpool or Maytag; I would need a compelling reason to have to go with an import, mostly for convenience of repair reasons. That might not be the most popular reason on the Styleforum. Still, I am reminded of a colleague's experience with a German dishwasher (Bosch or Gaggenau or Miele, I forget) in a new house in a tony northern U.S. resort town. None of the local service shops would touch it when it broke.
