Horseback Riding: Didn't know I'd like it so much! - Page 4

I've only ridden a few time but enjoyed it.

Living in Texas I know several who own horses and I've heard a lot of stories about people who have gotten hurt from falling off a horse. Had 1 guy in my office who was out for about 6 months because he broke his back after falling off a horse. Another guy's wife passed away after she hit her head after falling off a horse. And of course we all know what happened to superman.

Let me tell you boys...there's nothing better than riding double on a horse with your gal.

I've really gotten into riding this summer. Usually I ride sans-saddle, as putting them on takes a lot of work and riding bareback is more fun IMO. The other day, I rode a quarterhorse across a lake. Never thought I'd go swimming on horseback. My girlfriend owns 6 horses so I get to do a TON of riding and have gotten pretty good. I'm considering buying one of my own now.

I've always wondered why people call it "horseback" riding? I mean when you ride a bike you're not bikeseat riding, why can't it just be known as riding horses? Well, I guess it is to those who spend a lot of time in that environment.

I'm pretty sure horseback riding has been around for a bit longer than riding bikes...or anything else you ride for that matter. It's the other activities that got the naming wrong.
