So i want to start making hand made leather goods on the side. i went to school for jewellery design so im not bad with my hands etc. i was wondering if anyone had any good books for starters? what supplies i would need? i know we have some people who do it here, and make amazing things. id be doing more basic things. if anyone can help or lead me in the right direction, i.e. books, tips etc. id really appreciate it! thanks!

My dad taught me how to make leather stuff when I was a kid. He learned from repairing saddles and stuff when he was a kid. It is really hard work.

Find a leather store (Tandy Leather is one major chain) and buy a bunch of scrap to practice on before you go buying full hides.

You'll need ultrasharp tools to deal with leather. A good awl, good needles, good cutters (get an x-acto set and a rotary cutter), etc are all necessary.

I'll pay you to make me a leather whip that I can use on your mom, but only if you promise to bedazzle it.

For these kind of questions...I would ask a blogger. There are so many experts out there on all sorts of subjects.

PM zissou. I don't know what he can tell you, but I did see him selling some handmade leather goods on the B&S.
