The court ruled that the man had given her the semen as a "gift" when he came in her mouth, and that it was legally her "property" to do with as she pleased. So he ended up paying child support.

That's one of the most fucked up things I've ever heard.

I knew a guy who fell in love with the town hottie and ended up marrying her. After about 2 or 3 months she got him to adopt her child. Less then a month after that she divorced his ass and filed for child suppot and the courts gave it to her

Last I heard the guy quit a good job and went back home and was working at some job for his dad or uncle who on paper was only paying him like $7 hr. the rest he was paid in cash. He still had to be carfull because how do you go explain to the judge how you boufgt a house and drive a $40K truck on a job that only pays $7 hr?

17% of $7hr is a lot less then what he would have been paying had he stayed at his old job.

a fool and his money are quickly parted, like the person the op discusses or any other idiot, they misread a situation or did not bother to read it at all, it is on them.

What makes you think you were wrong at 17 and right at 20?

Much of what he says -- especially in this case -- seems a lot more reasonable than simply defaulting to child support payments.

And no, the child is not one one who is victimized by a father who doesn't pay any more than the child is victimized by a mother who cannot support the child she wishes to have, nor is the child the recipient of the father's money; the mother receives money from the father and can use it as she wishes until a court finds her unfit to be a mother (good luck with that outside of the most egeregious circumstances such as drug addiction, severe neglect, and other criminal acts).

I guess this really deserves a seperate thread, but in summary my beautiful sister-in-law seduces/rapes her old boyfriend, an ivy league educated doctor, has baby, he gets depressed, stalks and threatens her life, spends time in jail, gets shock therapy, pays child support. Who is the biggest loser in this story? Here's a hint, it's not the doctor and it's not my sister-in-law.

Your brother?

Very late to the game here, but xchen, your friend needs to take responsibility for his actions. Sure, the girl may be crazy, but he also could have been much more responsible. Or, he could ignore the kid and go on living his life knowing that some kid is going to grow up all fucked up because he doesn't care about him/her.

Edit: Yeah, your friend is a jackass. And if he really doesn't want any contact with the kid, I'd have to say that he is a scumbag as well. I mean, no matter how it happened, that's his flesh and blood. I have no respect for guys that won't take care of their own.

He is in his early 20's. I think once he sees his own kid, his heart will change. The exact same thing happened to a buddy of mine. He wound up getting full custody b/c he documented everything. He was paying child support but the bitch was spending the money on herself, not the kids.

OP: Tell your friend to document everything.

note to whiny dudes everywhere: a woman telling you that you can stick your dick inside her is not rape. Just FYI.

This is why I wear two condoms, galoshes and oven mitts during sex.

On a related note, how much is child support these days? Say I make $50K, how much of that goes to the mother? Is it a fixed percent, or does it increase or decrease with a change in income?

Depends upon the jurisdiction in which you live.
I pay a flat % of my income.

So without getting too personal, are we talking 5%, 15%, 35%...basically is it a very large burden that affects your quality of life, or is it just another bill. I see 17% being thrown around in this thread I'm really curious, thanks for the help
