I find it very funny that J Geils was David Lynch's roommate in college and David had to move out because J was, "too weird".

Yep, they make a 5 too. In retrospect I probably should have gotten 2 of the 5's to flank my amp instead of the 7 (I have a couple other acquisitions in the works too so already I'm short on storage with the 7).

That's funny, I actually set out to buy a 335, wasn't even considering a 339--always felt that the 339 didn't have enough hollow body mojo and I had read that it was very Les Paul like in its tone (I should really stop taking so much stock in the TGP biases). I tried a few 335's and just didn't bond with any of the ones in stock. The sales guy brought me a 339 to try just for the sake of comparison and I really loved the tone, size and feel of the guitar. The one I tested wasn't particularly sexy or set up well, so while I was enthusiastic about it I wasn't planning to take it home. As I went to return it to the rack I saw this other one (below) hanging next to the empty slot, and went HOLY SHIT! I swapped out and played for a few minutes, setup and feel was much much better, and I knew that with a little bridge adjustment it would play like a dream. 20 minutes later it was sitting in the rack in my office. smile.gif I still kind of want a 335 so will keep looking for a good one (or maybe an L-5 lol), but this will definitely hold me over in the meantime, and the finish is so gorgeous it's certainly a long-term keeper.

So I understand where you're coming from. I try to keep an open mind when guitar shopping so that I only end up taking home really special examples. But the wish list only seems to grow and there's stuff on there I have been meaning to get for years but just never get around to it because I get side-tracked by what I think is a really special find.

such a gorgeous guitar...from all the 335s ive played, im just not a fan. I much prefer the vintage epiphone sheratons with the mini humbuckers to the 335. fantastic playing and sounding guitars.

Ive spent a TON of time with L5s. Honestly, if i had the scratch, id never own another guitar. Nothing later than 1960s though. If you get some time with one, make sure to try one with P90s. gah. tone like no other. Only thing ive played that compares is a vintage super 400, but the L5 is much more comfortable.

P90's are great pickups, but if you get good handwound humbuckers with very mismatched coils and scatterwinding you get the best of both worlds.

I wonder about comments coming from David Lynch. I've met Jay a number of times. He is quite the gentleman and also an amazing jazz guitar player.

I've had the exact same experience with 335's as Derek. Never found a good enough one. Instead, I have a 60's Casino and a custom thing made by an English luthier, which is a 339 sized (or maybe a bit bigger) fully hollow guitar with a carved Spruce top and P90s. Brilliant guitar but I want to put minihumbuckers in it as the P90s in it are lollar low winds and I find them a bit boring sounding.

Beautiful. Love those 356s.

So, two interesting pedals arrived today- a JHS FZIII Fuzz and an Ibanez Tube King. The Fuzz is not by the new JHS, but is a 1970 fuzz made in Italy, probably by Jen. It was a blind purchase- there is very little info out there on these pedals. But holy crap, this pedal makes it sound like I can actually play lead. Wow. Sustain and drive. Damn.

The Ibanez Tube King is the old one, not the new one. These are apparently very similar to Chandler Tube Drivers and it sounds great too. Never had to wait for a pedal to warm up before!
