Been working a lot this year and my son started kindergarten (early to bed and early to rise), so there have not been a lot of opportunities to sneak off to my man cave and make a lot of noise. I tend to play a lot more during the holidays so hopefully I can recondition my fingers and get back to where I was last winter! smile.gif

Enjoy getting back into the swing of things!

The Boomerang alters tone the least, but the DL4 would more than get the job done.

I once tried to trade in a cherry 335 to Guitar Center to trade for a 60's Gibson 330. After half an hour of negotiating and back and forth with a manager, the most they offered me was $1300. I went to 30th Street Guitars, found an old casino I liked, and they offered me $1900 trade in for the 335 without any negotiating whatsoever.

Akai Headrush is another option, but mine adds a bit of noise to the signal when bypassed so I prefer using my DD7.

I'd like your opinion on something. How much would a 1999 Les Paul Custom go for? I recently inquired about a trade for one with this guy. I offered him a 2001 Standard with a flametop with upgraded bridge, tailpiece (along with originals) and boutique wound pickups. He laughed at me and said I would have to give him $1,600 along with my guitar. I see used standard bursts and customs going for about the same price on the used market. The deal didn't seem bad to me. Is a used custom really worth $1,600 more than a used and upgraded standard flametop? I think he is dreaming.

If you want the most accurate perspective on pricing on used and vintage guitars get a copy of this :

The 2013 edition isn't out just yet but you might want to place an order.

Yeah, I can't see how he comes up with your Les Paul plus $1600 - that seems crazy. Maybe a few hundred extra, but $1600?? I mean, I think color can have a lot to do with value for LP customs, but even so.

Definitely check out the price guide that PSG linked to or failing that, eBay, to try and see what similar things sold for.

I am such a tinkerer. I placed a order with this dude that hand winds pickups to wind me some new ones. 7 week wait. I am dying here, yet so excited.

That sounds awesome. I've been wanting to replace the stock pickups in my piece for a while but haven't been "in the know" enough for a long time to merit it (aka- played for 7-8 years very seriously, and then just dropped it for the last 6).

Please post a link w/ sound if at all feasible.

Yeah, I have been getting into it again after college/early-career hiatus. It is fun, but you get into the gear fever again pretty quickly!

I probably won't get around to posting any audio links for a while. I have no modes of recording anything decent. No mics, or anything at this point. Don't know if I even want to go there as I just enjoy playing for myself.

Totally understandable.

If there's any way to at least throw some photos up of the process (or of the new pickups/installation assuming you do it) I'd love to see what goes into it.

Yeah no kidding man, I don't have time to play anymore but I'm still thinking about building a 5E3 clone icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Let us know how you like it. I put in an order for the new Mr. Black eterna shimmerverb when they were doing the testicular cancer awareness version - looking forward to some shimmer.
