I feel I want to change the neck pup in my Tele.

what's wrong with it?

I actually love the Floyd. I never played a regular Strat tREM that didn't feel stiff, and the Floyd doesn't. And it's not
Just for five bombs, it's great for simpler vibrato type stuff. And it stays in tune! I'm a big fan.

Isn't PAF a Gibson thing?
just slang for a low-ish output humbucker

I might change the pick guard one day too but doesn't mean I don't love that guitar. Also, and this could be me, but the Tele S/S seems all about the bridge pup. Doing something with the neck pup seems like it might increase range of possible tone quite a bit.

As Hendrix said, it's just a Gibson type humbucker. This is a classic mod for a Tele, because most people do find the neck pickup pretty useless. You have to enlarge the route to fit it, though. You may not want to do that, but it's not like you have a collectors piece so you could consider it.

Never looked under the pick guard and might do that this weekend just to see what the routing is. If it's single don't they have new pups that have the footprint of a single coil but are actually humbuckers now? Like this one?

Yeah that's easier but doesn't have the look.

^ What's the third knob for on the burst? And I see some switches...is that Andy Summers?

you could also mod the switching to get the current pups in series (thus making them a displaced double coil), although it probably wouldn't sound like a PAF it would sound pretty meaty and dark

but if you don't use the neck pup at all then maybe the hb is the way to go.

i'd def consider PAF but you might also take a listen to the 70s "wide range" hbs, one of the boutique makes a true spec version, better than the crappy fender reissues. maybe a demo on YT i dunno...

I played a Tele with a lace hot gold in the neck which sounded good. I like their pickups in general though, and they're pretty polarising.

Middle position of my "blade" switch gives both pups.
