i dont think so, I have both fenders and gibson, be it I grew up on gibsons, every fender I've got new in the past few years have required work on the frets (minor leveling, or even smoothing), we're not talking about squiers, but an american strat. My jazzmaster was ok though. All the recent gibsons (I'll save you the talk about the richlite garbage) are plek'd which does make a difference in my experience down the line.
