Official Guitar, Amp, Pedals, and Gear Thread - Page 131

Though Beck has since said how much he regrets the trade, lol.

Beck has gone on record to say that he didn't really trade the Yardbirds Esquire and clearly feels he should get it back. SD continues to tell his side of the story and retains ownership of it. A number of guitars were swapped, loaned, left at gigs and peoples houses, repaired, traded and given to friends that went through SD and JB's hands.

When I was hanging out with SD at the Dallas Guitar Show he had brought along the Yardbirds Esquire and let me play it in his hotel room. Very good guitar but it was Jeff Beck's talent/playing that made that guitar special.

Oh. That appears to be basically what I was wanting to build for myself; a 2humbucker Tele, albeit w/ a coilsplitting option at the bridge.

Great minds, no...?

I don't get the tele-gib. In general I think tele's are fugly.

IMO Teles are a bit ugly but that does not mean I don't find the aesthetic appealing.

I think most Tele's are pretty ugly but I find the Tele-Gib sexy.

To me, a Tele (and especially it's stripped down brother the Esquire) is a perfect American example of Modernist design - "Form follows function" - reflecting plain, simple design integrity. To me there is beauty in it's simplicity.

But there is that same simplicity, (with more elegance) with the strat than the tele.
the vibrato on the Strat was apparently quite an undertaking.

Btw, as I was sitting in my newly created music studio (a spare bedroom) last night I realized that buying my Epi and the Vox and starting to take lessons was the best thing I've done for myself since I dropped 50#. I was having fun with "double stops" and now have to learn to play "Tush" by ZZ Top.

There is something about the simplicity of a Tele that just makes guys want to "gussy it up". It is the Erector Set of guitars.

I would love a Tele and I would keep it simple. Gome, post a pic of yours.
