That's so weird.

PG Bridge, '59 Neck. I'm excited to hear how they sound.

Thought I had a line on a mid-80s MIJ 57 Strat reissue. Instead I pulled up to a closed store in a seedy part of another city. I called the cell phone number from the add and asked the guy if he still had it. He said he did and to come by his house...in an even seedier part of that town. Pull up to a run down single wide, power tools and axes strewn around, and I can hear someone playing. Knock on the door and he yells to come in.

Smokey room with dishes and take out containers stacked everywhere, he's got a police scanner cranked up and a Strat is in his fat pudgy hands. Not the Fiesta Red MIJ in the ad but a black one with an odd looking pick guard. Some guitar he's cobbled together with MIM parts.

I got the fuck out of there.

Craigslist? Some creepy stuff. Would've been a sweet snag though.

wut? That's hilarious.

and IMO it was Candy Apple Red and not Fiesta Red.

I am having major GAS after this weekend's big let down. I really want a Strat or Tele.

Now that the Strat in question is gone trying to decide whether to grab that Marhsall first and wait on a guitar or wait on a guitar then grab that Marshall. Do not want to do both before Xmas.

well the amp is "fixed", for the lack of a better word. You know which one and where to score it.

the guitar is "variable", again for the lack of a better word. Your best bet, IMO, is to have no timeline for this and to wait until the right one becomes available. One might pop up next week or in 6 months.

Agree with what you're saying. Another variable is that pedals and my VT are sort of silly. I do want to start my pedal board but probably not until I get the Marshall. I have to say the VT is a noisy amp even in clean with the gain down.

well, I wouldn't call pedals and the VT silly. When I was using my VT, I would only use the amp sounds (UK 70's was the channel I used almost exclusively) and never the built-in effects. I already had pedals so I figured might as well use them, and I found that they sounded better and the tone was easier to adjust. Some pedals, like a wah, you'll physically need.

craigslist is your friend for pedals. Just keep an eye out and you'll see Boss pedals pop up for like $40.

Whoa - Fender has reissued the Starcaster finally? How did I not know this?

Not that I'll buy one, but I'd love to try one for fun. I always wanted an old one but they cost too much and didn't play well enough. I don't know why but I've always found 70's Starcasters and Teles to be insanely stiff.
