Gauloises, specifically the line that tastes of peat.

I met an Englishman in town on business a few months back and he let me have a few of his Gauloises. I've had Gauloises in Canada before, but these were different. They're much shorter and had a very distinct peat flavor, almost akin to a Scotch from Islay.

What are these called and where can I order them online?

These are cigarettes. I'm only likening the peat taste to Scotch.

Gauloises brunes (brown) are the unfiltered ones and come in a shorter pack: To say they're rough on the throat is an understatement.
