Gorgeous... SO 1920's- 1930's. Spade out that sole just a tad, and they'd be a Grail for me.

Tom Park has addressed this question several times in the blogs for Cleverley. Here is the link in which he discusses the Cleverley C&J connection. Cleverley makes their own stuff.

It is a little strange that these shoes had to be made in Northampton, shipped to Hawaii, and then back to me here. But there was a reason. In September I had asked at the Edward Green shop in London whether they could order these for me. They told me that it would not be possible, since they didn't have access to the shell leather. Apparently the global demand for shell is now so high that Horween can't meet all of the demand, even for Edward Green. Part of the issue is that Alden has a claim on a large portion of the output. Anyway, I had thought that it would be impossible, but then the LS order came in, so I jumped on it. I don't think that the price worked out to be much different, when all was said and done. These represent my most significant shoe investment to date. I regret nothing.
