NYR-As you probably know, the Shoe Mart is actually a brick and mortar store so the pair you got probably got tried on. While I understand the desire to have a never touched pair of shells, it's just part of buying shoes from a brick and mortar.

There's a few posts about the pen method in the Alden thread in the SW&D forum. I use the pen method on all of my personal pairs, shell or calf.

Hmmm...I guess it could be C&J whose trees I'm not familiar with. Upon closer look, the shoes actually look C&J-ish which is never a bad thing either!

You need to check the Alden thread for details but basically you put the pen where you want the crease and artificially break in the shoes, it gives you control over where the creases will be located as opposed to random crease. I think srivats maybe able to tell you more about it. As I said, I've never done it but will give it a try this time when I get my new shoes.

People actually do this? NYR - don't fret about the creases. Shoes are meant to be worn. The first time you walk a day in NYC, you'll have a million more creases.

I have narrow feet (sort of) but I didn't like the way the Narvells looked on me. And I am a huge fan of other narrow shoes like the Corthay Arca

I'm not sure if I'd be pissed or not, but FYI the pen method won't work on a pair of shoes that already have creases in them. The pen method simply helps to guide the creasing on a completely uncreased pair of shoes. Once creases develop the shoes will continue to crease in that area. At best the pen method will do nothing, at worst it would create a second set of creases.

I'd jut wear them as is.

Narvell is quite narrow. However the camera angle didn't help either.
