I think if we compiled pictures of all of mcarthur's Aldens, we would have the entire Alden cordovan line up.

Mac is too discreet to ever share his whole collection, but I know I've counted at least 40 different pairs. And he does have some of the basic models in all five colors of shell that Alden offers (Whiskey, Ravello, Cigar, #8, and black)

C&J design is more authentic but the Alden finish is x10.

Shell cordovan has a sort of "grain" to it that reflects light differently in one direction than another. So it can look like different colors at different angles, even on the same shoe. It's more noticeable with the lighter shades.

Here's one of my PRL/C&J dark cognac shoes--all made out of the same color shell, but you can see the middle part looks lighter than the heel and toe. The pieces were just cut out in different directions when the shoes were being made, so they don't all reflect the light in the same way.

very important for a maker to pay attention to how the shell is cut so that the light reflects properly. otherwise, it looks sloppy.
