Shoe Damage Report & Shoe P0rn Central - Part II - Page 1269

One of the best vintage shoes I have bought in the last 12 months is this set of Velveteez woven Adelaides.

They seem from the last and white stitching to be late 40s/early 1950s but what marks them out is they are the best and most complex set of woven summer shoes I have ever seen on eBay.

Obviously made in a factory - nevertheless the handiwork in preparing the woven parts is amazing.

The intricate punching and thought that has gone into their manufacture is amazingly skilful.

Given that suede is the coolest summer shoe leather, leather soles essential, and unlined or fabric-lined pairs cooler still, I was happy to spot a cheap-ass summer loafer from Cortina.

Peach suede uppers, canvas lining, Blake-stitching with fake Goodyear on welt, leather soles, plump toe and machine-sewn apron.

Nice!  I know AS doesnt get much love aound here but I really like their lasts.

btw is the leather "zug grain"? (not the general pebblegrain but the specific waterproof kind made by that tannery in England, and used in veldtschoen-constructed boots)

nah, just standard pebble grain.

I can haz made to measure black suede hippo leather chukka boots from Rozsnyai. They feature 360-degree storm welts with a combined, white hand-sewn stitching, Vibram Eton rubber soles (similar to Dainite, but better in grip and durability), elongated almondy round chisel toe, rounded chukka style with black calf piping, clean and seamless back, dark purple lining, three hidden eyelets.

Despite the looks, hippo leather is very soft and flexible, durable and comfortable.

Ultra cool ones here. Hippo is extremely soft... softer than standard suede. My 1960's Church's are some of the softest leather shoes I own.

Faaaak!  V, I've been waiting to see these almost as eagerly as you have.  Stunning! :)

Outstanding chukkas.

Thank you, chaps.

Before anyone beats me to it -- yes, the hide is CITES-certified and here is the supplier:

http://www.italhide.eu/en/ippopotamo/

I wanted hippo as the leather was new to me, and these gruff nubuck hides are best suited for boots. I've a thing for white, blue and black suede, got mostly lucky that the maker had this hide in stock. For the moment, I like the white contrast welt with the matte, light-sucking uppers. If I change my mind later, some black cream will hide the stitching easily. I mostly dislike derbies because of angled, straight uppers. Rounded corners change them entirely. Seamless backs are not only more durable, but also clean as hell. Well, enough of my likes and dislikes. If hippo interests you, just do it.

Some info on the costs?

^^^ Crazy cool shoes Ville! The suede hippo looks amazing, hadn't seen it before.

Darn,

Amazing leather!
Ville, do you have any knowledge of the properties of the leather? Normal and suede?

I've seen elephant, and it looks great, but hippo could be cool.

A rough derby or single monk with double leather sole from Bonafe in hippo. Mouth watering already!
