Bespoke Lobb Monks - needed them in a durable leather that had a nice warm patina and could withstand Town & Country. Looking forward to breaking them in!

Those Ugolini pics are making me realize how much I love a nice round-toe last, and how tired I'm getting of all the sleek, sharp, chiselled things that get so much SF love.

You know, I could tell quite the tale. 1.5 years or waiting and no less than 4 revisions, these shoes were an epic endeavor. Truthfully, I would do it again, absolutely. Mostly based on the wonderful rapport I established with Mr. John H. Lobb, through the various issues and revisions.
Mr. Lobb's tenacity to get something right and treat a client with old world, gentlemanly candor is remarkable, if not legendary. The shoes, in all fairness, are wonderful and have a hand quality that is quite different than EG, Lobb boutique etc. There a human imperfection of craftmanship that's warm and rich...it's a quality that difficult to articulate. The fit is perfection and the materials sublime.
I recommend Lobb St. James to anyone who is passionate about English Bespoke - in the meantime, I plan to get these in to rotation as soon as possible!

Thanks for posting the Lobb St. James! They are beautiful. Wish we could see more of them but that is what happens when a shop is bespoke only.

I can see how you'd react that way - too much of anything gets tiresome. Do you have any more tapered shoes in your collection though?

Sorry for repeating this whole post, but I just wanted to say that the sharing of experiences like artoftime's is what attracted me to SF in the first place. And cheers to Cravate's recent contributions as well. Truly shoe pron!
