From the Cleverley website;

"The hippopotamus is the third largest land animal in the world, with a tough skin which makes this a very unique material to work with. The supply is small and only on display at a few Cleverley trunk shows throughout the year.

All of the hippopotamus skins are certified to have originated from animals that died of natural cause and not hunted. I have personally hand selected each skin for their colour, texture and grain which gives each completed shoe a unique appearance. The material is very strong and will last many years. I recommend these skins for either two-tie bluchers and boots. The unique grain would work very well in casual settings."

Not sure why they would be dishonest about this.

The almost regular cross hatching/chequeboard on the hippo leather is very nice.

I've gone and split some sort of drink on my new leather shoes. Not sure how to get the stains out. Any advice would be awesome.
