not even possible to guarantee ANY leather's longevity.

To sniff? Smell any different than its conditioner for reindeer hide?

I thought all Russian calf hide were history. Cleverley certainly has been able to conjure up many of the mythical leathers! Maybe sea turtle next lol

May be it is a trade secret that there is still existing tannery in Russia that produces Russian Reindeer. I feel they only use the real vintage leather to make the small leather goods. Do people think such leather can make into a durable shoe after a long time under the sea?

Interesting to have the fabric pull tabs inside the shaft. This is one way to avoid it catching the pant cuff.

You have to put a lot of care into their upkeep. My other 2 pair have a few minor cracks, but I wear them with some frequency.

The shoes are the real vintage stuff. AFAIK Cleverley does not use the faux Russian that others sell.

Speaking of Cleverley, nothing as exotic as above (which are gorgeous) but I picked up my loafers at the weekend. Never thought I would buy a pair of loafers in my life let alone a pair of tassle loafers. There's nothing particularly special about them either but I just really liked them. They were originally a natural tan colour and I got them to give them a black antique finish. Also got them to make some adjustments to the heel for a better fit due to my really narrow foot and low instep.

Uncle Mac,

Nice looking RL's. I think I like this wingtip derby more than the Alden. Wear it in good health.
