Best Eletric Shaver?

I know the best close shave is with a straight razor, against the grain, etc...

However to save time and my face, I use an eletric shaver. I do have a very thick dark beard and a shadow appears by 9 a.m.

Any preferences for eletric shavers that give a good, as close as posible (with an eletric)?

You go with the grain the first several shaves then against the grain.

I like the Norelco SpeedXL series. Reasonably priced, and soft on the skin. I haven't found the much more expensive ones to be much, if at all, better. I also hate the ones with crazy cleaning machines--you have to buy replacement cleaning cartridges, which to me isn't worth it. The Norelco SpeedXL you can just run under the faucet.

I have a higher end model panasonic that I got on slickdeals for really cheap with a set of spare blades a couple of years ago.

It came with a cleaning unit although I threw that thing away after the filter/soap unit it came with got used up...

I have come to prefer the linear units to the rotary shavers

I use a Norelco 8020X. It is the best electric shaver I've tried. It has the goo reservoir that dispenses in through the heads. I have rather sensitive skin and this helps. It's still not perfect, but it works.
