Rereading this after so many years and it's still so fresh and absolutely hilarious. Never read anything else by Stephenson though...how does his other work compare?

Cryptonomicon is pretty good, IIRC. I really enjoyed Anathem, although the first bit may try your patience. Started Quicksilver a few years ago but couldn't make it through at the time. If you don't have time to read through his books relatively quickly, you forget significant parts of the story by the time you make it to the end, in my experience. All of his stuff that I've read is really impressive in that he manages to cram a lot of really fascinating concepts into a reasonably compelling narrative.

Snow Crash is easily the most accessable book of his I've seen.

I read the "young ladies' primer" one (proper title escapes me) after I found out I was to become a dad...loved it.

Maybe it's because I read Snow Crash immediately after the William Gibson Neuromancer Trilogy, but picking up Snow Crash after those 3 was like a breath of fresh air.

Not that I dislike Gibson, but I really hated how he would rather think up a 20 word name for his hardware rather than actually describing it or its function. So moving to Stephenson describing the sight on Hiro's gun as a "laser doohickey" had me rolling !

I've been meaning to re-read this one. One of my favorite books back in high school.
