He says in the video that he's been working in fashion for forty years. I can imagine that even after that long, you'd grow very tired of dark blue business suits with muted ties and conservative shoes.
Further to that he adds that he likes a timeless style that you could wear for about thirty years, with small changes to keep it in check. I think that can account for some of his clothing looking very fashionable and some of it being quite refined. Perhaps this is why he splits opinion so much...
