That tie knot is ridiculous. Having the back blade askew might be quite sprezz, but ripping it to the side like a double-headed freak looks more than a little affected.

That approach reminds me of an old-timey cravate.

A poor man's Luca.

3/4 buttons unbuttoned on the left sleeve. One undone on the right.

It'd actually be a decent outfit if he'd never read a blog or never adopted prefabricated Italianate affectations.

The jacket is just bad..

The only reasonable objection to Ethan's jacket is that the sleeves are slightly too long. Otherwise it fits well and is in a conservative style which is appropriate for the cloth. The cloth itself is in a subdued color palette but still interesting / not a suiting.

I don't know how salespeople usually dress in HK, but I have to think he's dressed perfectly appropriately for his situation.

Not to be too rough on the kid, but this a prime example of handsome dudes vs. stylish dudes vs. dudes dressed by the internet. Luca can get away with all his affectations because he's a good looking guy. Ethan can carry all these same affectations because everything feels more natural and stylish when he does it. This dude just looks like he's read too many blogs. He looks like he walked into the Armoury on his first day and was bombarded by every trend and element they've ever gotten on board with. Rather than picking and choosing, he grabbed them all.

His boyish looks make him better suited for a slouchy university look than a "sprezzy" polished look.

The whole thing could be fixed with socks, a regular tie knot and plain loafers.

socks + other shoes would be enough for me. I really like the tie knot.
