Yes this thread has a somewhat selfish motive but i think this can be a valuable thread.

We have a "recommend a wine/restaurant/tailor/etc..." thread but nothing about cars which is one of the harder things. It's something that's hard to find and everyone wants one.

Reliable and honest mechanics and body work places are very important to make sure you're not getting charged more than you need. I know i've been indirectly involved (gf in gainesville) with dishonest places that don't really fix anything but charge plenty of money.

This can be a good thread for people to either ask for advice on a place in their city or to recommend a place in their town they've been to, know the people involved, or trust.

I'll start Orlando, FL: Body Work- FM Auto on orange blossom trail An honest place that is a family business for 20+ years. Went from husband to wife to son and the current owner has made it a well respected place. They do good work and is involved with the biggest taxi company (Mears) in orlando and did work for nascar cafe and other places in the past, not to mention did paint jobs for some rappers/athletes. Can get really good paint and body work there and they know their stuff. Gainesville, FL: Mechanic- Perfection Auto Repair on NW 6th st Good family place with a friendly atmosphere. Took my GF's car here after having problems with it. I worried it was something major like the transmission and they took a look at it. I talked with them and since they thought i knew a bit about cars actually invited me back into the employee only work area to show me some stuff. One of the belts was a bit weak and they addressed it. It ended up having problems still and they looked at it again without charging any extra "examination" fees or whatever. Found the problem, fixed it quickly, and charged a very reasonable amount (i checked this with connections i know from another city and he said the prices were very good). The car has been working great every since. They did a good job and were very friendly/helpful and highly recommend the place. If anyone knew a mechanic or a place to get brakes checked, parts ordered and installed in the boston area i'd appreciate it. I've always had family connections to car places or knowledgeable people living in florida and always got good information, prices and help so i'm a bit hesitant at the moment.
