the denim debate

today's feature at valet is a quick interview with ryan plett of [you_have_broken_the_internet], where he talks about his latest endeavor: the denim debate, a year-long test of 25 different denim brands, ranging from "entry-level" denim like 3Sixteen to more artisanal lines like ooe yofukuten and jean shop.

while the site launched today, their flickr has enough fit pics and detail shots to satisfy us here on SF.

the best part i think about this project is that it isn't just for hardcore denim nerds, but rather that it employs all sorts of people, from students, environmentalists, musicians, et. al., kind of like the diversity we have on the forum.

anyway, since this thing is still in its infancy, i think it'll be interesting to see how it progresses as a go-to resource for denim sizing, fading properties, and such.

Awesome.

Something about his writing style makes me feel like I'm reading copy from UO's site. Also, I'm going to have an aneurysm if I see "premium" used yet again to describe anything but unleaded gasoline.

probably because he also runs a branding company, but between him and 24 other people i'm sure there's plenty of room for differing opinions.

Yeah, that would explain it in that case.

"We'll let marketing take care of that..."

it's "more artisanal" than say, A.P.C., you can go into their store, and they will literally make you something. i know, i know, they don't have a person on a shuttle loom in-store or anything, but there is still plenty of handmade love and attention to detail that goes into a lot of their work.

I don't see how Jean Shop isn't artisanal. The jeans are made by hand and each pocket bag comes with its "born on" date handwritten with a Sharpie.

Looks really interesting. Yet another way I can live vicariously through people who buy much more expensive clothes than myself. Bring it on!
