Proposal suggestions for LA / Long Beach - Page 3

on a serious note ... you might want to think about Parker's Lighthouse restaurant. It's not going to show up on anybody's list of gourmet destinations, but if you order simply you can eat pretty well and it does have a spectacular setting. it's a nice (10- 15-minute) walk from the convention center. or, you could go across the street to the aquarium of the pacific and propose in the lorikeet sanctuary. that might be kind of romantic, as long as one of them doesn't poop on you.

Have you considered getting to the conference early, and having her paged to a visitor center? You will lose the beauty of the sunset, but the element of surprise will be awesome, plus she'll have co-workers in close proximity for the bragging. It will make a great story, and you can go celebrate somewhere with a nice view.

I've lived in downtown long beach the past 6 years. Im 2 blocks from the Convention Center and know the town inside and out - if it doesnt work out with the GF we can meet up for a beer at the yardhouse!

1. There is a light house on the penninsula right next to the aquarium. Walk down Pine ave to the ocean and take a right by the marina and it wraps around. You can see some of the Aquarium (if its a Friday night there is a FREE shark night, always a good cheap option for 20 minutes of fun), the boats, a fountain and the ocean. When you get to the lighthouse and its dusk you can get a great view of the city and the water.

2. Queen Mary is a good choice. You willl need to do it on the boat though since the surrounding area is parking lots. Actually there is a grassy area nearby but it is nothing special. Go to the Observation deck bar, grab a cock tail, go to the top level with benches and look out over the ocean and city. View similar to the above, just further away. You can take the RED line passport there for free or cab. Its a long walk if your in a rush.

(Funny story: I took a girl there once on like a thursday night and it was empty. We ended up climbing up to the top of the middle smoke stack and thats where we ahd our first kiss. Pretty cool and never got caught!)

3. Palos Verdes penninsula lighthouse. Was there for a wedding a few years back. Very secluded and romantic view of ocean/catalina as far as the eye can see. The drive there is great too, windy roads. Would be great at sunset, but you're racing the clock. And you have to drive through the port (impressive but industrial)

4. The big hill in san pedro. Never been but I hear the views are nice and it has a big bell, if thats your thing. Same downsides as above.

5. There is a restaurant downtown (i can look it up if you want) that does dinner and helicopter rides of the city. Pretty cool idea. OR you could just takea helicopter to catalina and do it there...?

Just re-read some comments:

- TOTALLY forgot about the Gondola Rides in Belmont Shore. Look that shit up.

- Im not familiar with the high end restaurants in town as Im more of a hooters kinda guy and the town is really built around the conventioners with quick casual dining. Best ive been to is utopia but there is also the madison, 555 and lopera.

great illustrated guide. manton, the korean friendship bell in "usual suspects" is the "big hill in san pedro" he was referring to. i think. there are lots of big hills in san pedro but really only one that's proposal-friendly. the belmont shore gondola is a great idea ... might also check and see if they can get it out to shoreline village (convention center adj). i dont' know whether they do, but maybe?

Sorry, another brain fart.

You can actually rent real boats there. All the way from an electric duffy to one of the chartered big ones to a mother fuckin PIRATE SHIP. Plus they have whale watching trips, the water taxi and a speed boat tour of the area.

They have one boat thats a B&B you can rent. All kinds of options if you really wanted to do something crazy like that and be a baller.

Just PLEASE, for the love of god, do not rent one of the Segways that I see everywhere.

PM me if you want info. I can walk down there and take a look tonight if your interested.
