Here in SoFLA we'll start seeing them soon enough (hell, my neighbor 5 houses down has a 06' CL600...and I'm sure he will trade his car in for the 07'), I'll reserve final judgment when I see it in person.

However, I am not liking the inside of the new S-Class. It's like a 7-Series taken to the next level of electro-garbage, it's a bad looking design all around.

To resurect an old thread ... how about the new cls? It's what ... about half the price of the cl ... and in terms of style ... I certainly prefer it.

To my eye, the CLS is a very beautiful car.

In my biased opinion the CLS is no CL. Yes, the CLS has nice looks and a decent interior, although the rear seats are cramped and have very little head room. However, IMO, the CLS doesn't come close to the comfort, handling, performance, and looks of the CL, especially the CL600, CL63, and CL65.

JJ, do you drive one of the incarnations of the CL?
Yes, admittedly biased.

I'll second JayJay the rear seats in the CLS are only fit for small children. Nice car otherwise.

Having access to and driven both, I agree.

I agree again regarding the comfort, handling & performance ... but given that difference in pricing ... I feel one should be able to expect more of the CL in these areas. However regarding the looks -- which I assume to mean exterior styling -- I truly do prefer the CLS. But then I prefer curves to angles when it comes to auto design.

To my mind, it looks like the Waterman Carene fountain pen -- kind of overdesigned...

I just googled the Waterman. There is definitely a resemblance of line!

For about the same money why not the C63 AMG? I'd consider it if I wouldn't feel guilty driving a car that drank 15-16 mpg.

I've driven both the Cl600 and the CL63. The 600 is a pleasure to drive - the 63 I find almost un-drivable. I might have been of the oposite opinion 20 years ago, but I couldn't have affored either back then.

I agree, the 600 is certainly smoother and also has a very intoxicating V12 engine hum. The 63 is definitely a beast but the 65 with its outrageous torque can be frightening.

I'm sure the average CL65 buyer needs a 6.5 liter twin-turbo V12... Really, the CL63 is MORE than enough.
