My average intake when I'm lifting is about 5000 calories a day, and I cut down to about 2000 calories plus added cardio when I'm slimming down.
There are women who eat less than 1000 calories a day in my local gym, but it does have a marked effect... usually the face becomes drawn and old-looking (for lack of a better term) and that's a sure sign that they're starving themselves.
